MY STORY
The full story behind the waiting list...
In 2013, I qualified as a Bowen therapist and opened my clinic. I had my website published within the month after I qualified. I thought I was good to go.
Six months in, I was staring at my diary on a Sunday night. Four bookings in a six-hour clinic slot. Still working another job to pay the bills. I genuinely wondered if I was cut out for this. Maybe I'd wasted my training. Maybe I was charging too much.
The website was there. But having a website and knowing how to market yourself are two very different things, and nobody ever taught me how to do that
I didn't have a plan so I tried everything: a Google Business Profile, every therapist directory I could find, flyers through doors, markets and craft fairs offering taster sessions and more. Some of it worked. A lot of it didn't. I paid for screen advertising in a local gym that brought in absolutely no one. I paid for ads in the local paper that never led to a single booking. I wasted money before I worked out what actually moved people to book.
As the clinic grew, I built systems: intake forms, automated reminders, newsletters, referral programmes. I learned to guide clients through a treatment plan instead of just hoping they'd come back.
Four bookings became a full, consistent diary with a waiting list. I've delivered more than 10,000 treatments to over 850 clients. But the numbers aren't the part I'm most proud of.
The other afternoon, I was on the sofa with my seven-year-old snuggled beside me, my youngest playing with blocks on the floor. Not worrying about next month's income. Not checking my booking system. Because I already knew the next few months were full.
That didn't happen by accident. I built it. I choose my hours. I know what I'll earn. I designed it that way.
That's why I now help other therapists do the same, minus the years of wasted money and guesswork. Most therapists don't need another marketing trick. They need visibility, a few working systems, and a client journey that helps people book, return, and refer others. Being a great therapist doesn't automatically create a great practice. But building one is a skill, and it's faster with someone who's already made the expensive mistakes.
I genuinely thought if I was cut out for this. Maybe I’d wasted my training.
Self-employed since 2009. Bowen therapist since 2013. Fully booked within two years, waiting list ever since. Now helping other therapists build the same
